Kestenbaum für "Herrn Prof. [Karl] Lindner in Verehrung".- Alfred Kestenbaum (18901961), ab 1938 verfolgt aufgrund seiner jüdischer Herkunft, gelang die Flucht in die USA, wo er 1961 in New York verstarb. - "Dr. Alfred Kestenbaum of 910 Riverside Drive, an ophthalmologist with an…office at 470 Park Avenue, died yesterday in Monroe, N. Y., where he was on a visit. He was 71 years old. Dr. Kestenbaum developed new diagnostic, therapeutic and surgical procedures in neuro-ophthalmology, including a new surgical treatment of nystagmus (involuntary oscillation of the eyeballs), and methods for improving the vision of the technically blind, through micro-lenses. He had served as associate clinical professor of ophthalmology at New York University and as head of the neuro-ophthalmological service at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. A native of Vienna, he received his M. D. at the University of Vienna in 1913. He subsequently served there at the Neuro-Psychiatric Institute and as a teacher of neuro-ophthalmology. After coming to this country in 1939, he established himself in practice here. He had been an associate in his specialty at University, Bellevue and Goldwater Memorial Hospitals [.] Dr. Kestenbaum was a former president of the Clinical Society of Ophthalmology in New York, and at his death was president of the Manhattan Ophthalmological Society. He also belonged to the American Academy of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology. An ardent Zionist, Dr. Kestenbaum was a former president of the Jacob Ehrlich Society and the Liberty Lodge of B'nai B'rith" (NYT).- Karl David Lindner (Wien 1883 - 1961 Salzburg) wirkte nach dem Studium an den Universitäten Wien und Paris (Dr. med. univ. 1907 Wien) von 1912 bis 1924 als Assistent an der II. Universitäts-Augenklinik im Allgemeinen Krankenhaus unter Ernst Fuchs und Friedrich Dimmer, dessen Nachfolger als Ordinarius er von 1927 bis 1953 war. Eigentlich David Karl, gebrauchte Karl David Lindner seit 1938 seinen zweiten Vornamen Karl und ersuchte seine Familie, diesen zu verwenden. Es wurde ihm das Dekanat der medizinischen Fakultät unter der Bedingung angeboten, zur NSDAP beizutreten, was er jedoch ablehnte, wodurch Kollege Eduard Pernkopf Dekan wurde. Gleichzeitig wurde er als Präsident der Ophthalmologischen Gesellschaft abgesetzt. Im Studienjahr 1948/49 wurde er schließlich zum Dekan gewählt. Er hielt bereits in den ersten Nachkriegsjahren Vorträge in Amerika, für die er sich als Honorar Care-Pakete auszahlen ließ, die er an Verwandte in Österreich versendete.
