Some issues present such as cracking, inscriptions, inserts, moderate foxing, tanning and thumb marking. Binding remains firm. Boards have mild shelf wear with light rubbing and corner bumping. Some light marking and sunning. Minor scuffing to edges and corners. Lettering is clear. Unclipped jacket has moderate edge wear with tears, chips, and some areas of loss. Noticeable rubbing and marking.

Handsomely rebound with leather spine, with five raised bands and gilt titles, over marbled boards, binding in lovely near fine condition. Inside all pages in near fine condition with no aging or foxing. A very nicely bound copy of the first UK edition of this novel, originally in French "Les Bestiaires" was published in 1926 after Henry De Montherlant traveled extensively, mainly to Spain, where he met and worked with bullfighter Juan Belmonte and wrote this novel about bullfighting and his hero's feverish search for the peacetime equivalents of the physical excitement.
