William Ellis, P.M. of said Lodge, and the last survivor but one of Commodore John Drake Sloat's Command, who participated in the raising of the American flag at Monterey and the taking possession of California on July 7th 1846. W. Bro. Wm. Ellis was an Honorary Life member of the Masonic Veteran Association of the Pacific Coast who died November 9, 1902 and whose funeral was held by his Lodge at Berkeley, Cal. on Wednesday, November 12, 1902. W. Bro. John Tower Morrison is an Active member of the Masonic Veterans Association of the Pacific Coast and a Retired Captain of the 10th Regiment of the U.S. Calvary, retired for disabilities contracted in the line of duty, and gallantly served with credit during the late Civil and Indian Wars, Edwin A.
