Good, on lightly aged paper. Rust stains from paperclips on one leaf. Five pages of typescripts on five quarto leaves. The first page gives the contents, and the rest are covering pages with a few words of instructions (e.g. 'PREFACE | (To be prepared after revising first proofs)' and 'APPENDIX --- Authenticity. | To follow with Bibliography and Indexes.' The proof slip, printed and with pencil insertions, is one page, on a leaf roughly eight inches by four and a half. Dated 20 July 1938, it is headed 'STEPHEN AUSTIN & SONS, Ltd., Hertford, Herts, | have pleasure of advising | DESPATCH OF PROOFS | herewith as follows:- | [.]'.

A collection of 337 Chinese proverbs under categories such as Achievements, Ambition, Courage, Crime, Haste, Law, Luck, Nature, Stupidity, Vice, Virtue, etc. All proverbs in Chinese, Wade-Giles Romanization and translated English. Detailed index at rear. Staple bound in printed wraps; interior page edges a little chipped, several of which also have a 4 cm. split along the upper edges from the spine. Pages quite browned, but all text intact and remains clear and legible. A rare item, somewhat fragile, now protected in a Mylar folder. n.d. [1926]; 70 pp. Size: 22 x 15 cm.
