Binding: Elegantly bound in contemporary full plum/burgundy straight-grain morocco (or calf). Boards feature intricate, wide gilt-tooled neo-classical borders framed by double gilt fillets. Inner dentelles lightly gilt-tooled. Spine with five raised bands, compartments heavily decorated with gilt floral and geometric motifs. All edges gilt. A highly attractive period binding with minor condition points. The leather title label on the spine is entirely missing/chipped away, leaving a bare patch in the second compartment. Light rubbing to the spine bands and outer joints; front hinge is slightly loose but remains securely attached. Internally clean with only mild, typical age-toning and light, scattered foxing. A very sound, handsome copy of a scarce printing featuring the erroneous Stillingfleet attribution. All images are photographed in natural light, no lights used to enhance colour or diminish shadows. Nicely bound in full contemporary calf, the spine in six compartments decorated in gilt, with five raised bands. A red leather lettering piece with hand stamped letters (Probably early 18th C) in the second compartment from the top. Nice contemporary 17th C marbling on the page edges. The binding strong and firm, but with the bottom front hinge cracked up to the first cord. The spine and boards with some scuffing and cracks but generally in very good condition. Internally the front endpaper and 2 leaves of contents coming loose. Lacking the title page on the last volume, one leaf loose on one sermon, lacking one blank on another, else all complete.
