California photographer Edward Henry Weston (1886-1958) was one of the most prominent American photographers of the 20th century and a major contributor in the shaping of the history of the medium. Throughout his 40-year career, Weston photographed a wide range of subjects including landscapes, still lifes, nudes, portraits, and depictions of everyday life. He was the first photographer to receive a Guggenheim Fellowship (1937).

The Globe Playhouse Trust commissioned works inspired by Shakespeare, briefing the poets to write either an occasional poem for Shakespeare, a poem developing a Shakespearean theme or character, a neo-Shakespearean lyric, or a poem adopting or containing a phrase or line from Shakespeare which were performed by the poets in London on 25th April 1973.
