Caption for the illustration as published is attached.King Edward VII visited Burton upon Trent around February 1902 as a guest of Lord Burton at Rangemore Hall, during which he officially visited the town and the Bass Brewery, even starting a special brew known as "The King's Ale". The visit was a significant public event, celebrated with decorations and public appearances, and the King also participated in a staged stag shoot at Lord Burton's estate. .Rebuilt by Michael Bass, head of the Bass, Ratcliff and Gretton brewery, it was literally fit for a king, in 1902 the house welcomed King Edward VII, who stayed at there having visited Burton. And now the property is on the market for £580,000 with Savills estate agents.The King was accompanied to Rangemore in East Staffordshire by one of his well known travelling mistresses, Lilly Langtry, for whom a special one-bedroom flat with discreet access was prepared.During his stay on the Saturday, he made a public visit to Burton and the brewery where he started a special brew to commemorate his visit, known as "The Kings Ale". On Sunday, His Majesty attended a public service at Rangemore Church before returning to London on Monday morning.He stayed again at the hall in January 1907, bringing both Queen Alexandra, and Mrs Keppel, another of his well-known mistresses, and great-grandmother of Camilla Parker-Bowles. He spoke so highly of the hall that part of the mansion was named the Edward VII Wing.Edward Frank Gillett was born at Worlingham, Suffolk on 23 July 1874 and baptised on 19 August 1874, son of Revd Jesse Gillett (1833-3 December 1893), curate of Worlingham, and his wife Eliza Marten née Duplock (1842-19 September 1908), who married at Crewe, Cheshire on 8 June 1864. Lord Mayor Samuel and the Corporation presented to him an address of welcome in the presence of a large gathering of distinguished representatives of politics, the army and navy, art, science, the Church, the law, and the drama. Among those present were Premier Balfour, most of the Cabinet Ministers, the Archbishop of Canterbury, Lord Roberts, the Duke of Fife, the Duke of Argyll, Lord Strathcona, Lord Lister, Vice Admiral Lord Charles Beresford, Signor Marconi, Sir Thomas Lipton, and Sir Henry Irving. Many women were also present to extend greetings to Mrs. Chamberlain.Mr. and Mrs. Chamberlain, who drove to the Guildhall in an open landau, received a remarkable welcome from the crowds, who in their enthusiasm here and there broke through the police lines and surrounded the carriage.The Lord Mayor, the Lady Mayoress, and the Corporation officers met Mr. and Mrs. Chamberlain in the library, where a procession was formed, headed by trumpeters.
