I have spotted minimal ink notes in the outer margin of one page, & there may be others elsewhere. A previous owner has practised writing 'London Englands Metropolise' in an older hand on the reverse of the dedication page of part II. The book has been exposed to damp at some time, & there is a noticeable tidemark on many pages, along with a darker mark in the upper corner of the opening pages: there is also what looks like a cigarette burn on p.347 of part I.

Hauptwerk des englischen Staatsrechtlers…Edward Chamberlayne (1616 - 1703) über die Verfaßtheit des britischen und irischen Staatswesens unter der gerade begonnenen Herrschaft Georgs II, hier in französischer Übersetzung. Mit zwei ganzseitigen Kupferstich-Illustrationen (Wappen des Vereinigten Königreiches; Porträt Georgs II), einer großformatigen, mehrfach ausfaltbaren gestochenen Karte Großbritanniens und Irlands sowie einer großformatigen, mehrfach gefalteten Tafel (Krönungszeremoniell Georg II und seiner Frau Caroline.Das Werk erschien erstmals 1669 in einem Bande, ab 1671 in und ab 1694 schließlich in drei Bänden. Chamberlayne adaptierte damit ein ähnliches Werk über den französischen Staat ("L'Estat Nouveau de la France"), das 1661 in Frankreich erschienen war. Chamberlaynes Werk wiederum war Inspiration für das von dem englischen Romanisten und Anglisten Guy Miege 1691 veröffentlichte Buch "The New State of England" (siehe dazu unser Exemplar derdeutscher Übersetzung dieses Werkes: "Geist- und weltlicher Staat von Groß-Britannien und Irrland nach der gegenwärtigen Zeit", 1718, Angebots-Nr.: SB-20193). Kapitale bei zwei Bänden mit kleinen Abrieben; zwei Ecken etwas bestoßen. Ansonsten befinden sich die Bände in vorzüglichem Zustand; Leder noch frisch wirkend; Buchdeckel ohne Spuren; Seite überwiegend sauber, partiell etwas fleckig, wenige Seiten etwas gebräunt. Kupfertafeln sehr sauber erhalten.In toto sehr schönes, frisches Exemplar dieser aufwendig gestalteten Ganzlederausgabe.Dos de livres de deux volumes avec de petites écorchures; deux coins lég?rement bosselés. Chamberlayne, an English nobleman and diplomat, is best known as the author of The Present State of England (1669). He held an LL.D. from Cambridge and a D.C.L. from Oxford.
