On one side of the slip is the conclusion of the letter: '[.] | Yours very sincerely | Edith Sitwell'. On the other side is the following autograph fragment: '[.] kind of you to invite me to your lumcheon party on Tuesday, and I am looking forward to it so much. I have not seen you for [.]'.

It Is A 47 Pp Booklet With A Full Page Of Acknowledgement At End, Stating That The Authors All Took Part In The Reading And Gave Permission For The Printing Of Their Poems. There Is Further Citation Of The Publishers For Particular Poems, And To The Authors Who Gave Permission To Print Copyright Material, And A Note That The Poems Of C Day Lewis Were Previously Unpublished, And Heart And Mind By Edith Sitwell Had Previously Appeared Only In The Times Literary Supplement. It Was Printed By Warren & Son, Winchester, But No Limitation Statement Or Price. The Compiler And Editor, Dorothy (Field) Dudley Short, Was The Author Of Children's Books And Books And Chapters Of Books On Sikhism, Reviews, Etc. She Was The Wife Of Caricaturist Norman Dudley Short. An Unused Example, One Of The Editor's Personal Copies.

The first edition of this work, number two-hundred and fifty-nine of three-hundred and seventy-five copies produced.A wonderful collection of poetry from the Sitwell's, the group of three siblings - Edith, Osbert and Sacheverell Sitwell - who formed an identifiable literary group in London between 1916 and 1930. Divided into three sections with divisional half titles, and with contributions from each sibling.Illustrated with a frontispiece, title page vignette, and headpiece - all in colour - alongside a number of further head and tail pieces, all the work of artist and illustrator Albert Rutherston. Collated, complete. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Bumping to back strip head and tail with a touch of fading to front board perimeters. Internally, firmly bound. The odd spot to the first few leaves, pages otherwise clean and bright. Very Good. book.

Internally clean and crisp, with noticable browning to spine. Very good overall. Together with an introduction and notes on the periodicals, as well as portraits of the authors by Albert Rutherston.

See his entry, and those of his siblings, in the Oxford DNB. A 15.5 x 20 cm black and white print, on glossy paper. Worn at edges, and with staining to blank area at top left. Stamped by the publishers on the reverse with 'Sir Osbert Sitwell. Bt. / 25. 8. 49.' There is a possibility that this is a signature by Sitwell, but the letter 'O' and other features are not quite right. The portrait is a head and shoulders shot, at an angle, with head just about facing the camera (although turned to the right): with hair slicked back, piercing eyes looking to right and upwards, tight-lipped in modern suit and tie, white shirt and handkerchief, buttonhole.

Second, Revised Edition. Very nice copy in slightly marked dust-wrapper.
