In den Warenkorbhardcover. Zustand: Good. Our good condition books are generally good for reading but not for gifting or collecting. They could have imperfections such as creasing, fanning, inscriptions, margin notes, yellowing, staining on edge or cover or pages, bumps, scuffs, etc etc (sometimes multiple of these). It's a wide category that encompasses anything that isn't almost-new down to anything that is slightly better than poor. We would NOT recommend gifting Good books - these should be considered reading copies. Our books are dispatched from a Yorkshire former cotton mill. We list via barcode/ISBN so please note that the images are stock images and may not be the exact copy you receive, furthermore the details about edition and year might not be accurate as many publishers reuse the same ISBN for multiple editions and as we simply scan a barcode or enter an ISBN we do not check the validity of the edition data when listing. If you're looking for an exact edition please don't order (at least not without checking with us first, although we don't always have time to check). We aim to dispatch prompty, the service used will depend on order value and book size. We can ship to most countries, see our shipping policies. Payment is via Abe only.

In den WarenkorbDecorative Illustrated Boards. Zustand: Fine. No Jacket. First Edition. Hardxcover. First Edition. Dad's Army. The Defence of a Front Line English Village. This log is intended for Field Commanders trying to forge a ruthless fighting unit. It therefore deals with war and weapons and how to turn ordinary chaps into tough-as-steel soldiers. It is unsuitable for civilians. These are the words of Captain George Mainwaring who commanded the Walmington-on-Sea platoon of the Home Guard during the Second World War. When Arthur Wilson, the nephew of Mainwaring's platoon sergeant, was asked to write a book marking the anniversay of the outbreak of war in 1939, he travelled to Walmington in search of inspirarion. There he discovered a rich treasure for, in addition to his daily log, Mainwaring had collected a huge dossier of journals, notebooks, letters, clippings and much else about the platoon's wartime activities. From this abundance, Arthur Wilson, has produced a superb book, interwoven with the human and humorous explois of Mainwaring himself, Sergeant Wilson, L/Cpl. Jones, Walker, Frazer, Pike and other fascinating characters. The book is dully illustrated with images redolent of the war years, many showing the platoon defending Walmington. Ir will, contrary to Mainwaring's stern warning, prove a feast for almost everyone. Illustrated. Illustrated laminated boards. 128 pp. (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. Academic and Scholarly books and Modern First Editions ,and all types of Educational Reference Literature.).
