By presenting both sides of the correspondence Professor Lewis has provided a more complete picture of Crane's relationship with his family and of the forces that played a part in his personal and poetic development. Any admirer of Crane's poetry will find this a fascinating documentary of the poet's development, what he thought, where he went, whom he met, and what he did from day to day.
