Under Audrey Withers' editorship British Vogue during the War and post-War years was much more than just a fashion magazine. The articles and photographs in this November 1945 issue are testament to the rigorous reporting that Withers aspired to deliver to her readership, including 'Report from Vienna' by Lee Miller (with her photographs of the recently liberated city), 'Paris Re-Visited' by Cecil Beaton (with his photographs of André Gide, Boris Kochno and Paul Eluard a year on from liberation), 'Museum Revival' by John Steegman, and an introduction to Pierre Balmain by Gertrude Stein. The cover photograph is the first Vogue cover by Norman Parkinson. Other photographers and illustrators include Roland Haupt, John Rawlings, John Vickers, René Bouché and a full-page colour photograph by Frances McLaughlin-Gill.
