Published by the Hydrographic Department of the Admiralty, 23 Oct 1942, under the Superintendence of Vice-Admiral Sir John Edgell, KBE, CB, Hydrographer. Natural Scale 1:14,500,000 (Equator). Charts such as this were issued in survival and navigation kits for life boats. This one shows the directions, speeds and limits of various winds and currents during November to April, including the Monsoon and Westerlies, with numerous notes and qualifications, magnetic variation curves for 1942, and the extreme northern limits of the polar ice pack and drifting ice. The notes on the back describe the chart and how to use it, management of boats, winds and weather specific to the Indian Ocean, and currents. Equivalents were prepared for the Indian Ocean (Oct - May) and North and South Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Scarce.

Includes time-zones and with a note on Mercator's projection. Possessions are colour-coded and include British Commonwealth, China, USSR, The Netherlands, France, Manchuria, Portuguese, Thailand, Japan and the United States of America. Roads, railways, canals and main shipping routes are also shown along with oilfields, depths, approximate national boundaries as of 1941 and larger towns. Spotting and minor marks to the reverse, none of which show through the heavy-stock paper.The map has its original fold-lines lines and minor edge-wear but is in very good plus, bright, clean condition overall. Scarce.

Original map. Size 41 inches X 28 inches. In very good condition. Centre fold. A little marked lower left corner, and small brown mark top edge. It will be rolled up and posted in a poster tube.
