Elmer Lawrence Corthell (1840-1916), a civil engineer, was active as a consulting engineer on railway, bridge, hydroelectric, irrigation, jetty, levee, and other projects in the U.S., Latin America and Europe. He had an office in New York City from the 1870s until 1916. He was the author of A History of the Jetties at the Mouth of the Mississippi River. Scarce: OCLC shows only one copy though without naming the institution.
