They are in a very good condition, with some fading of the jacket colour, and slight scuffing along the spine top, bottom and edges. There is also slight edge ware bends on the corners There is no jacket with this book. The page…s are uncut and in a very good condition, for the age of the book. There are light pencil marks (ticks) and sentences underlined on some of the pages. There are no pictorial illustrations in the book, just literary details. The page numbers go to 172 and then there is a new section called Catalogue of Books, published by James MacLehose & Sons, Published to the University of Glasgow (24 pages). I have classed the book as being in a very good condition, given its age and despite of the above details.

Longman and Rees; London; 1803; third edition) Devonshire: The Beauties of Sidmouth Displayed; being a Descriptive Sketch of its Situation, Salubrity, and Picturesque Scenery. Also an Account of the Environs, within Fifteen Miles Round by J. Wallis (Longman, Hurst, Rees, and Orme; London; 1811) The volume on Sidmouth is illustrated, but the plates for the volume on Tewkesbury were published separately with the large octavo edition. Illustrated with a folding frontispiece and a folding map to the volume on Sidmouth. Collated, complete. The volume on Tewkesbury explores the development of the town, including the history of the abbey and abbey church, and of various other public institutions, such as the grammar school. The volume on Sidmouth, which is a scarce volume, is divided into two parts, with a history and description of Sidmouth in the first part, and a history and description of surrounding towns in the second part. In a half morocco binding. Externally sound, with shelf wear to the boards and splitting to the front joint. Rubbing to the joints, extremities and head and tail of the spine. Front hinge is slightly strained but is held firmly. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, except for a little offsetting to the text of the Sidmouth volume. Very Good.
