In Antiquity, this role reflected particular cultural and geographical perspectives. Due to issues of textual availability, scholars of the ancient Mediterranean have tended to focus on classical texts, which primarily adopt Greek and Roman approaches, specifically the views expressed by authors active in mainland Greece or Italy. This volume aims to propose another perspective: that of the East.
