Laid in is a card with Melies' name listing him as the Director of the Robert Houdin theater, Publisher of Cinematographic Views, President of the Union of Cinematographic Film Publishers, President of the Union of Illusionist Artists of France, and President of the International Cengris of Film Publishers 1909. Melies was a French magician, actor, and film director. He was one of the first filmmakers to use storyboards and special effects, and is most well known for his science fiction and trick films *A Trip to the Moon* in 1902 and *The Impossible Voyage* in 1904.
