Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good+. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good+ dj. Illustrated by (dj design) Ben Feder, Inc. (illustrator). First Edition. (price-clipped) [nice clean copy, light wear to extremities, slight bumping to upper corners; the jacket has some very minor wear along the top edge and at the upper corners]. "The story of a man who found a woman whom he doubted, yet whom he could not easily resist. When a happily married man meets an excitingly attractive woman, he may do one of two things. In this novel duty is the excuse for choosing the wrong road, the way of danger." Sounds like approximately every other film noir ever written, so it's unsurprising that this author had screenplayed several good ones -- including LAURA (1944) and THE DARK CORNER (1946) -- as well as having written the novel that served as the basis for another, THE PITFALL (1948). (Which has to make you wonder if this started out as a treatment that nobody picked up the option on.).

Vintage studio still photograph from the 1960 film. A dramatization of the life of controversial German scientist Wernher von Braun, who was integral in the creation of the German V-2 rocket during World War II, and a pioneer of space travel and satellites during his later time in the US. The film garnered controversy upon release due to its superficial treatment of von Braun's affiliation with the Nazi party during his time in Germany, and was picketed in America, Germany, and Britain by antifascist and communist demonstrators. Shot on location in Bavaria. 10 x 8 inches. Near Fine.

Manuskript / Papierantiquität
Treatment script for the 1947 film, here under the working title "That Wonderful Urge." Accompanying the film are several production documents, including multiple sets of revision pages and two interdepartmental typed notes on Twentieth Century-Fox letterhead. A very interesting piece of Hollywood history: the script here reads as a remake of the 1940 film, "He Married His Wife" (right down to the names of the characters), but one whose plot was later altered to be the one we know today, about a newspaperman and his heiress. Light blue titled wrappers, dated July 7, 1947, with credits for screenwriter Lynn Starling. Title page integral with the front wrapper, as issued. 22 leaves, with last page of text numbered 20. Mimeograph duplication on onionskin stock, rectos only. Pages Fine, wrapper Very Good plus, bound internally with two gold brads.

Manuskript / Papierantiquität
Shooting Final Draft script for the 1946 film, in maroon leather owner's binding belonging to actor William Bendix, with his name in gilt on front board, and title in gilt on spine. William Bendix was an American stage, film, radio, and television actor who is best remembered as one of television's archetypal patriarchs, the blundering Chester A. Riley in "The Life of Riley," first on the 1944-1951 ABC and NBC radio serial, then in the 1949 film, directed by Irving Brecher, then finally in the 1953-1958 NBC television series. Bendix was nominated for an Academy Award in 1942 for his supporting role in the WWII drama "Wake Island," directed by John Farrow. Based on the 1945 story, serialized in "Good Housekeeping" magazine, by Leo Rosten, about a private detective, just released from prison after being framed by his ex-partner, and now finding himself framed for murder, with only the help of his quick-witted secretary to clear his name. Set in and shot on location in New York City. Maroon three quarter leather binding over brown leather boards with title in gilt on spine and William Bendix in gilt on lower right of front board with endpapers crediting BooKraft Hollywood. Title page present, dated October 31, 1945, noted as Shooting Final, with credits for screenwriter Jay Dratler. 135 leaves, with last page of text numbered 134. Mimeograph duplication, rectos only.
