Howes (Final Edition) 492: "Reminiscences--chiefly of adventures that never happened -- by a senile braggart." However, there have been recently discovered historical notes showing that Drannan worked as a civilian contractor for the army during the Modoc War, which puts Drannan where he said he was at the time he said he was there -- even if he didn't participate in the ways he claimed. Robert E. Howard, author of Conan the Barbarian books, was inspired by Drannan's reminiscences. Americana.
