Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (Formerly known as Bombay Municipal Corporation) has been working tirelessly for the last 143 years, providing civic services and facilities to the citizens of Mumbai. As per the Census of 2011, Mumbai's population was 1 Crore 24 lakhs. Keeping in mind its rapid growth and its various social, economic, educational transitions, nearly 1 lakh 9 thousand (109,000) staff members of the Corporation are providing civic services and facilities of water, health, sanitation solid waste management, gardens, creation and maintainace of cultural places etc. The annual budget of Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai for the year April 2016 to March 2017 is Rupees 37000 crore (Appx. $5.50 billion).
