The first edition thus of this work in the publisher's original cloth binding. All volumes contain a frontispiece and a title page vignette. In addition, Volume I contains one folding plate and six further illustrations; Volume II contains four illustrations; Volume III contains one plate and two folding plates; Volume IV contains one plate and one folding plate; Volume V contains two illustrations and one folding plate. Collated, complete. Volumes I to V of a six-volume set of the poetry and prose of Robert Burns, with a life of the poet. Volume I contains the biography of Burns, and his poetry and songs, which continue into Volumes II and III. Volumes IV and V contain his prose and correspondence. These volumes were edited by William Scott Douglas. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally fairly smart, with light shelf wear to the extremities, boards and head and tail of the spine. Spines of Volumes II, III and IV are slightly faded. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean, except for offsetting to the end papers. Very Good. book.
