While attending college he was employed at the New York Public Library. He ended up being employed at the NY Public Library for 35 years serving as an Acquisition Specialist. During his service to the library he traveled extensively both in the US and abroad for the Acquisition Program. His specialty was Military. His four volume Military Bibliography of the Civil War is now a standard reference guide in the U.S. Mr. Dornbusch also served his country during World War II, serving in the US Army and being discharged as a Staff Sergeant. Having retired in 1962 after thirty-five years of service at the main branch of the New York Public Library, Charlie Dornbusch relocated to "the old Hope place," a 19th century farmhouse. The bibliography of the American Civil War comprises books that deal in large part with the American Civil War. There are over 60,000 books on the war, with more appearing each month. Authors James Lincoln Collier and Christopher Collier stated in 2012, "No event in American history has been so thoroughly studied, not merely by historians, but by tens of thousands of other Americans who have made the war their hobby.
