There is a facsimile of Hood's handwriting as well as numerous small black and white illustrations. 12mo. Some light rubbing and rounding to the corners and spine ends. Some discolouration to the text block spray. Internally hinges cracked and a couple of lightly strained gutters. Gift inscription on label on front free endpaper, in a contemporary hand, and an embossed imprint; a further gift inscription, dated 1871, opposite the half-title. Boards bumped and scuffed, and front board dampstained and lightly warped; front pastedown soiled. Front free endpaper lacking and preliminary pages loose and dampstained. Pages toned and numerous chips, tears, and lacking corners. Additional dampstaining and a few loose pages throughout. Includes many trappings of its early owners, Walter and Lucy Brownley, including a lovely gifter's inscription and well-used family record pages (much of the notation made by someone with a clear flair for decorative penmanship), the receipt for the original purchase of the book, a clipping of hair, a badly faded 19th century photo of a baby, and several prayer cards, poems, and colorful clippings.
