The SMS "Wolf" was an armed merchant surface raider of the Imperial German Navy in World War I. An authentic record from the log of Captain A. Donaldson of the S.S. Matunga whose crew were captured by the German raider, under the command of Captain Karl Nerger, on 6th August 1917, leaving Donaldson with some officers on the Matunga. The two vessels arrived off north-west Dutch New Guinea on 14th August and at the remote island of Waigeo on the 26th and all usable supplies and cargo on the Matunga were transferred to the Wolf. SS Matunga was taken into deeper water, where the ship was sunk by the Germans.
