A collection of articles from the 1894 issue of Good Words, a nineteenth-century monthly periodical directed at evangelicals and nonconformists, particularly of the lower middle classes. It included overtly religious material, but also fiction and non-fiction articles on general subjects, including science, with the standard for content being that the devout should be able to read it on Sundays without sin. It became known as a "fireside read", which could be shared and enjoyed by adults, servants and masters. This issue contains articles and stories entitled: Kitty Alone, The Great Astronomers, The City of the White Walls, Miss Mitford and "Our Village", and Wanted a House, amongst others. Edited by Donald Macleod, a Scottish author and the brother of Norman Macleod, a Scottish clergyman and author who was the periodical's first editor. Bound in full modern black cloth.
