An account of the exploits of B.O.A.C. security chief Mr. Donald "Flying" Fish and his roving aide Douglas Buchanan; the airline detectives, intent on cracking international gold and diamond smuggling operations. It was Fleming's fourth book related to illicit trading, following 'Diamonds Are Forever','The Diamond Smugglers' and 'Goldfinger', although his contribution here was limited to essay-length. Fish had known Fleming since the mid-fifties, when the pair had attended two Interpol conferences in Istanbul and Vienna. 'Airline Detective' was written with the assistance of John Pearson, who was Fleming's aide at The Sunday Times, and was serialised in that newspaper. Pearson later became the first biographer of Ian Fleming. Gilbert B2a(3).
