Love Joe Dolan.Õ From the working library of the actor Peter O'Toole (1932-2013) with his posthumous bookplate. This small typographic bookplate reads 'From the Library of Peter O'Toole' designed by Michael Mitchell of Libanus Press and authorised by the executors of his estate. Handwritten signed letter from Joe Dolan to Peter OÕToole addressed from 38, Hollin Lane, Leeds LS16 5LZ undated and consisting of about 212 words in which he explains who he is and refers to a number of ÔWithnail & IÕ adventures he had with Patrick. He was flying over the Cork-Kerry mountains on the day of Patrick OliverÕs funeral and thought of him. Now there are plans for an art exhibition and a celebratory publication which Val Oliver (wife) has asked him to collate. He asks OÕToole if he would write the introduction and encloses his book, Ôthat made Patrick laugh, in parts.Õ Handwritten poem entitled ÔI See Patrick NowÕ loosely inserted written on yellow ruled paper with a note on the other side saying ÔI dread to think what Patrick would say to such sentimental doggerel. He was always a Sam Beckett man.Õ Set partly in Paris, an unworldly protagonist dreams of going to Tashkent but falls in with some dodgy characters who are involved in fraud, blackmail and arson. He ends up owning a French caf. Joe Dolan (1929-2011) artist, writer and film maker lived in Leeds and taught at Bradford College of Art. Patrick William Oliver (1933-2009) artist and lecturer and art tutor at Leeds College of Art for nearly 30 years, mentored artists such as Marcus Harvey and Damien Hirst. He and Peter OÕToole grew up in Leeds and met during their schooldays. They formed a friendship that lasted until OliverÕs death. OÕToole called him Ôa delinquent fellow spiritÕ and nicknamed him ÔOÕLiverÕ. When he died his estate included a number of paintings by Patrick Oliver. Rare. Very good. NO ISBN. Very good indeed.
