Published by E…rskine MacDonald in 1918, the final year of the First World War.In the publisher's original paper boards, with the poet's signature to the half-title.Perhaps one of the most fascinating poems of the First World War, The Ballad of the Iron Cross is a thought-provoking narrative poem that follows a British soldier who won the Victoria Cross, including his killing of a Iron Cross awardee, and his trauma. Following from the ballad are six other intriguing poems, including a pastiche of Rupert Brooke's The Soldier.Dodd previously wrote the appraised biography Francis Bacon's Personal Life Story in 1910, which controversially claimed that Bacon was the true author of Shakespeare's works. In the publisher's original paper boards. Externally, mostly smart, with small signs of shelf wear and very slight bumping to the extremities.
