Die Künstlerin Maria Thereza Alves erforscht in ihren Arbeiten soziale und gesellschaftliche Phänomene. Sie arbeitet besonders in und mit Situationen, die die sozialen Verhältnisse in Frage stellen. "The Return of a Lake" versammelt Texte und Bilder, die sich mit der Geschichte des Chalco-Sees befassen und die kulturellen, ökologischen und politischen Trans- und Deformationen ausleuchten. In vor-spanischen Zeiten war die Gegend ein ökonomisch und kulturell wichtiges Zentrum. Nachdem zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts der brutale spanische Unternehmer Íñigo Noriega die wichtigste natürliche Ressource - den See - trockengelegt hat, ist das Gebiet heute ein ökologisch geschädigter und sozial zerrütteter Vorort an der Peripherie Mexiko Stadts. Obwohl die Realität aussichtslos erscheint, kämpft ein Teil der Ortsgemeinschaft für den Erhalt der indigenen Kultur - und schöpfen Hoffnung aus dem wiederkehrenden Tláhuac-Xico-See. ***** Maria Thereza Alves researches social and cultural phenomena working particularly with situations which question social circumstances about what we think we know and who we think we are and look instead at where and how we actually are at this time. The Return of a Lake gathers a series of texts and images which delve into the history of lake Chalco and the cultural, ecological and political transformations and deformations that have surrounded it over the centuries. Once an important economic and cultural center in pre-Hispanic times, today the area is a marginal, ecologically damaged and socially broken suburb in the outskirts of Mexico City, after its main natural resource, the lake was desiccated by a brutal Spanish entrepreneur, Íñigo Noriega, at the beginning of the 20th Century. While reality seems to hinder an alternative, part of the local community struggles to save the indigenous culture of the place, and sees hope in the re-emerging lake of Tláhuac-Xico.

Part of an ongoing exploration, "Room of Rhythms 1" is based on a conversation between Cevdet Erek and Duygu Demir that reflects on themes of sound, architecture, rhythm, measured time, dance music and site-specificity. "Room of Rhythms 1" provides an insight into Cevdet Erek's practice as an artist, summing up the artistic research that led to "Room of Rhythms", an experiential installation presented at dOCUMENTA (13). A selected body of previous work -from curious rulers to LEDs that act as proposals for re-evaluating measured time, or maps for best listening points in exhibition spaces or even invisible columns inserted into floor plans- is considered in relation to "Room of Rhythms", alongside a collection of images.

In his seminal work Observations (1995/2011) Ondák cut from a book- perhaps a monograph on perception - a series of details comprising images and captions. Presented on the gallery walls singly or combined in diptychs and triptychs, these cuttings form a universal vocabulary of individual and collective relationships and exchanges, of physical movements, mental projections, momentary intuitions, or suspended states of mind on which the artist's research is grounded. Hung at various levels, the images and their laconic texts capture subtle, nuanced psychological situations and ordinary attitudes through a balanced combination of similar and contrasting gestures, postures, and gazes. The exhibition space is "edited" by this intervention, and its indoor articulation reverberates with a constantly evoked outdoors, as well as in the recurrent "elsewhere" revealed in the cuttings themselves. In these works, where micro and macro mirror each other, Ondák does not provide an alternative to reality; rather, he gives the audience a key with which to access and identify the variety of different observations and interpretations that reality offers. On the occasion of dOCUMENTA(13), "Observations" is on view in its entirety for the first time, as an invitation, both giant and humble, to look.

Stemming from a distant world these meteorites embody a stunning time-space paradox.
