The composer opens the compact 20-minute work with a purely instrumental first section followed by a musical setting of Alexander Bezymensky's poem To October, a hymn of praise to Lenin and the revolution. While avant-garde and modernist traits prevail in the first section, the choral finale features a conventional, almost placating tonal language that emphasises the histrionic gestures of the text, so that the composition communicates as a piece of programmatic propaganda. Shostakovich himself was rather dissatisfied with his Symphony No. 2 but it was awarded first prize in a composition competition for the best pieces relating to the revolution's jubilee. His 8th String Quartet, composed in the same year, is interpreted as a deeply personal commentary on this. By contrast, his Symphony No.12, which was written around the same time and bears the subtitle 'The Year 1917', seems like a dutiful official statement with its October Revolution subject matter. Remarkable are the work's recourse to the ideals of early communism and the omission of any references to contemporary times. Noten. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Mit dem Klavier hat Dmitri Schostakowitsch bereits in frühen Jahren zum Beispiel als Stummfilmbegleiter sein Geld verdient. Noch bis in die 1960er Jahre trat er öffentlich als Pianist auf und spielte meist eigene Werke. Wie Maurice Ravel hat auch Schostakowitsch Orchesterfassungen einiger Klavierstücke gemacht. Die Sätze der siebenteiligen Suite der Puppentänze hingegen, die 1952 für junge Klavierschüler:innen entstanden war, existierten zuerst als Orchesterwerke aus den Film-, Bühnen- und Ballettmusiken der 1930er Jahre. Der Lyrische Walzer ist die fünfte Nummer aus der Dritten Ballettsuite, die ihrerseits aus dem dritten Akt des 1935 komponierten Balletts Der helle Bach op. 39 stammt. Aus diesem Ballett sind auch die Romanze und die Polka entnommen. Die Gavotte findet sich auch in der Dritten Ballettsuite. Die Erste Ballettsuite ist die Quelle des Walzer-Scherzos, das den Untertitel Die kleine Ballerina trägt. Der Schlusstanz ist die einzige Originalkomposition dieser aparten Suite.…
