Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. This collection of essays written by biblical scholars from around the world attempts to probe the relationship between the Bible and the world. It reflects modern social, political and hermeneutical issues, including liberation concerns. These themes echo John Rogerson's commitment to relate his r…esearch and the Bible to contemporary issues - a commitment visible both in his publications and in his religious and political activities. This book is an expression of appreciation of John Rogerson by former and current colleagues, former students, and other biblical scholars. Essays in honour of John Rogerson Copyright 漏 Sheffield Academic Press.

In den WarenkorbHardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. Very Good dj. First Edition. [very slight wear to spine ends, otherwise a solid clean book that appears unread, with a vintage price sticker (from The White House, San Francisco) on the rear pastedown; jacket edgeworn and a bit rubbed, with minor paper loss at several corners]. Novel about the disi…llusions of a successful advertising man who's a frustrated poet, and especially about the difficulties he faces in his marriage when his second wife develops an unnatural jealousy of his dead first wife. An early work (his third novel) by the author who later went on to greater fame (and sales) as the author of "The Greatest Story Ever Told.". Illustrated by (dj) [Carroll C.] Snell (illustrator).

In den WarenkorbHardcover. Zustand: Fair. First Edition. (no dust jacket, but encased in a nice-looking facsimile reproduction of the original first edition jacket; see 2nd image posted with this listing) [much external wear, with slight exposure of boards at all corners, a bit of deterioration to cloth at spine ends, some dust-soiling to top o…f text block; on the plus side, the binding is sound and the book is internally unblemished]. An early non-crime novel by MacDonald, about a 24-year-old princess -- "beautiful, accomplished, rich, American by birth, and royal by an alliance of her father" -- who entertains the attention of seven suitors (winnowed down arbitrarily from an initial population of three hundred!). NOTE again that this book bears a FACSIMILE dust jacket, which has not been factored in to our pricing. Illustrated by (dj) Carroll Snell (illustrator).

In den WarenkorbHardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Good+ dj. Reprint "Second Printing" (stated). [moderate shelfwear and light soiling to bottom edge, slight fraying to cloth at top of spine; jacket shows wear at extremities, 2-inch split at bottom front hinge, short closed tear and associated creasing at bottom of front panel, short L-shaped tear…at top front hinge]. The middle book in the "Whitey Trilogy" (which nobody actually calls it) -- following the notorious "Queer People" (1930) and preceding "Kings Back to Back" (1932) -- in which the amoral (sorry, irrepressible) ex-newspaperman and booze-hound hits the Big Apple, where "his boudoir and other exploits -- including the management of a speakeasy in Harlem -- bring him into conflict with the participants in half a dozen underworld rackets." "Queer People," which went through multiple printings (including a "rediscovery" in the 1970s) and has earned a permanent spot on the list of most outré Hollywood novels of the day, is an easy enough book to find; not so the other two "Whitey" adventures, which as far as I know were never even issued in paperback. Illustrated by (dj) Vincentini (illustrator).

In den WarenkorbHardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. Very Good+ dj. First American Edition. [a nearly flawless book, but for some foxing/spotting on the top edge of the text block; jacket is lightly edgeworn, with some tiny nicks at a few corners (minimal paper loss) and one itty-bitty closed tear at the bottom of the front panel]. A mid-career novel… by this German Expressionist writer (originally published in Germany in 1927 under the title "Das Ochsenfurter Männerquartett"), about "five unemployed men with a desperate and fantastic scheme for earning a living." (This involves forming a singing group!) 1933, the year this book appeared in translation in America, was not a good one for the author: he fell afoul of the Nazis, who banned and burned his books; he fled the country, and after moving around Europe a bit ended up in the U.S. in 1940, where he remained for the next ten years before returning to Munich. (Appropriately, while in America he picked up a nice bit of movie money when M-G-M filmed his most famous novel, "Karl und Anna," in 1947 under the title DESIRE ME. "The Singers" later served as the basis for two German TV films, made a year apart -- one in West Germany (1978), the other in East Germany (1979), the former directed by Michael Verhoeven. Illustrated by (dj) Carroll Snell (illustrator).
