This book contains nine chapters. The first chapter broadly presents the animal's responses to various ecophysiological conditions encountered both in sea and estuary. Information with regards to impact of different biotic and abiotic stresses are also discussed in this chapter. Energy load on animals while adjusting to the surrounding medium becomes an important factor in estimating the final yield or production per unit hectare in culture operations. Chapter two deals with such basic information on osmologulatory functions. The respiratory metabolism or metabolic rate of crustacean animal is influenced by a number of biotic and abiotic factors. In culture oriented studies it is important to know the requirement of oxygen combinations of environmental factors etc. for well being of the shrimp health. Chapter three deals with these aspects. Chapter four describes the mechanism of moulting growth pattern neuroendocrine control of moulting moulting metabolism mobilization of minerals and environmental factors controlling moulting. Chapter five and six deal with digestive physiology nutrition and feed requirements of the species. Chapter seven and eight deal with physiology of reproduction including neuroendocrine mechanisms and other endocrine factors that control reproduction. The last chapter is on cryopreservation of gamete embryos and larvae of this species. From the Preface The aim of the book is to present the fundamentals and applications of biotechnology in a broad biological context. The text is divided into two parts Part I deals with the basic principles and techniques employed in biotechnology while part II covers the commercial applications of biotechnology. In chapter 1 fundamentals of molecular genetics are covered while chapter 2 describes the techniques of genetic engineering (recombinant DNA technology) as well as chemical synthesis sequencing and amplification of recombinant DNA. These two chapters act as a stepping stone for the remainder of the book. In chapter 3 transgenic technology wherein single functional gene or gene clusters transfer into the chromosomal DNA of higher organisms are discussed. This technology has many practical applications. For example the product of injected gene stimulates growth faster and requires less feed. Chapter 4 describes the methods of large scale fermentation processes using recombinant microorganisms (bioprocess technology). Nanotechnology and nanoscience have wide potential application to revolutionize many areas of scientific fields and the same has been described in chapter 5. Agricultural scientists are engineering crop plant to carry genes with desirable traits such as resistance to pests or diseases or increasing the nutritional value of fruits or vegetables. These various applications of plant biotechnology are discussed in chapter 6. Aquaculture is an evolving technology for maximizing production of fish and shellfish in captivity. Manipulation of aquaculture species can have far reaching implications on development of food products. These are covered in chapter 7. From the Preface This book on Physiology of Reproduction Breeding and Culture of Tiger Shrimp Penaeus Monodon contains eleven chapters. In the chapter one we have made an overview of the literature concerning the subject. Breeding biology and fisheries aspects are covered in chapter two. Chapter three deals with the female reproductive system and dynamics of ovarian maturation. This includes the morphological and anatomical characters of the reproductive organ i.e. the ovary in relation to the process of maturation the chain of cytoplasmic and nuclear transformations inside the ovarian tissues at different maturity stages and the mechanism of oogenesis through molecular means. It deals with the morphological and anatomical characters of the male reproductive system during the process of testicular maturation the mechanism of sperm differentiation formation of the complex acrosome in the spermatozoa and the mechanism of spermatophore formation. The fifth chapter is on neuroendocrine system and its role in reproduction. Here the focus is on the morphology of the various neuroendocrine centers and its anatomical details with respect to the Neurosecretory Cell (NSC) types ultrastructural process of neurosecretion distribution and mapping of NSCs in different ganglionic centers of central nervous system eyestalk Neurosecretory System the ultrastructure of the sinus gland and its various types of granules. All these structures have been correlated with reproductive development through histo physiological events of the oocytes in the female gonad and the corresponding cytological changes in the regulatory neuroendocrine organs and cell types in the neuroendocrine system. Sixth chapter is an important which deals with the neuroendocrine manipulations and their impact on gonadal maturation. Here different aspects of endocrine manipulations viz influence of eyestalk ablation the effect of ganglionic extract injection and also the influence of synthetic hormone injections on ovarian maturation breeding and spawning are described in details. Chapter seventh pertains to the studies on the cryoperservation which deals with two aspects. One is on the reproductive quality of male P. Monodon. Various parameters for the evaluation of reproductive quality like spermatophore weight sperm count and sperm morphology and sperm viability are described. Spermatophore regeneration time and effect of eyestalk ablation on the spermatophore regeneration and reproductive quality of male are also covered. Second aspect deals with the cryopreservation of sperm. Chapters eight and nine deal with hatchery seed production and farming and culture practices of tiger shrimp respectively. Microbial diseases and genetic improvement aspects are covered in chapter ten and eleven. Kadi Ahmad Burhan al-Din was an Oghuz vizier (high-ranking minister) and atabeg (a noble custodian of the crown prince) to the Eretnid rulers of Anatolia. In 783 AH (1381-1382), he took over Eretnid lands and claimed the title of sultan for himself. He is most often referred to by the title kadi, or Islamic judge, his first position under the Eretnids. He was an outstanding poet, who wrote primarily in Persian. Qâzi Aḥmad Borhān al-Din played significant role in the development of the Azeri Turkish poetry. His diwan comprises 1,500 ghazals, 119 tuyughs, and a few distichs. According to J. Rypka, he was "a poet of profane love; mystical notes are sounded more rarely in his work". Despite his ability, he was relatively unknown, and his work had little influence on later Azeri or Ottoman poetry. Slightly faded on binding and some pages. Otherwise a good copy.
