Contains 39 large sepia toned gelatin silver photographs measuring around 7" x 9" with some captions. Very good photo album with rubbing and worn edges with fine photographs. A photo album kept from 1900 until 1906 at Overleigh Farm in Bernardsville, New Jersey. In 1891 John Milton Dillon (the son of a prominent judge) and his wife Lucy Sands Downing Dillon built their magnificent Gilded Age country house, Overleigh on the grounds of their horse farm. The photographs show large beautifully composed professional images of the Dillons and their children on horseback or in a variety of horse drawn carriages. The grounds of the house are seen in these photos showing the well-landscaped farm and beautiful gardens. One photo shows the family in a Studebaker wagon with "Overleigh Farm" written on the side. The family is also seen relaxing on a large porch and posing in their garden in fashionable clothes. Two photos towards the end of the album show the family's new car. Later when their daughter married they added the house Fieldview Farm to the property. Here they started raising and showing Hackney ponies, originally used as a breed to pull carriages. Through this album the Dillon's interest in horses is apparent and these years were the beginning of their blue ribbon pony breed. An interesting series of large photographs a wealthy American family and their estate and horses.…
