Por más de 25 años fue asesor económico e internacional de la Federación Nacional de Cafeteros de Colombia y ha representado a su país en la Organización Internacional del Café (Londres). Fue Ministro Plenipotenciario de la Embajada de Colombia en Washington y ha sido profesor de cátedra y es miembro del Consejo Directivo de la Universidad de los Andes.
