Smart presentation case in gilt and navy, lettered gilt. / William Roy DeWitt Wallace (1889Ð1981) publishing as DeWitt Wallace, was an American magazine publisher who co-founded Reader's Digest with his wife Lila Bell Wallace, publishing the first issue in 1922./ From the library of Victor Ross (1919-2021) an Austrian Jewish refugee from Nazi occupation who became Chairman of ReaderÕs Digest, Europe. He conceived and led the 'Thank You Britain' fund in the 1960s, raising £96,000 (well over £1 million in todayÕs terms) within the Jewish refugee community from central Europe, for a scholarship fund and series of annual lectures at the British Academy.
