Très rare prépublication du Voyage géologique aux Antilles | Gide et Cie | Paris 1848 | 23.5 x 30.8 cm | Relié | Très rare édition consistant en la prépublication, indépendante, de la première partie du grand Voyage géologique aux Antilles et aux Iles de Ténériffe et de Fogo, qui comprendra sept volumes in-4,…s'étendant aussi à la Guadeloupe, la Martinique, etc. Ouvrage orné de 9 planches lithographiées hors-texte, dont une carte dépliante des îles du Cap-vert, et 6 vues sur fond teinté. Non signalé par Sabin dans sa notice sur le Voyage. Il a été relié à la suite, du même auteur : "Recherches sur les principaux phénomènes de météorologie et de physique générale aux Antilles" imprimé à Paris, chez Gide et J. Baudry en 1849. Reliure à la bradel en pleine toile chagrinée noire, dos lisse orné de filets à froid, quelques petits manques sur les coiffes, accrocs sur les mors, encadrement de double filet à froid sur les plats, gardes et contreplats de papier jaune, tranches mouchetées, coins légèrement émoussés, reliure de l'époque. Charles Deville (1814-1876) dit Sainte-Claire Deville, géologue né aux Antilles dans l'île de Saint-Thomas, était membre de l'Académie des Sciences et professeur au Collège de France. Quelques rousseurs, trace d'ex-libris arraché sur un contreplat.
