paperback. Zustand: very good. Pocket-size volume with two fold-out maps. 103 pp, thin 8vo, original light green printed wrapper. Light surface soil. Albany: C. van Bentheysen, 1863. This very scarce survey by Goldsmith Denniston compiles historical, geographical, and statistical information about Orange County, New York. The book contains detailed discussions of the county's geology and physiology, climate and products, and political divisions. In addition, it provides agricultural and manufacturing statistics for several towns, such as Cornwall, Goshen, Monroe, and Newburgh. At the front of the volume are two maps of the area. The first is topographical and labeled with the natural resources to be found in each part of the county. The second map is a "Map of Patents in Orange County granted under the Colonial Government." Both maps are in very good condition, and the volume is internally fine. The original paper wrapper is worn but in tact, chipped only slightly at the corners. A library(?) stamp has been removed from the front cover, and the title has been handwritten on the spine in red pen. This book is an excellent copy of a rare document of New York State history.
