Cette conférence de Jules Dejerine occupe les pages 153-155. Il s'agit de la première conférence qu'il donna à la F…aculté de médecine (pendant le semestre d'été de l'année 1889). Comme il l'indique dans sa liste de "Titres et Travaux scientifiques" (1894), l'objectif du cours était l'enseignement de l'anatomie pathologique du système nerveux, avec démonstrations pratiques à l'aide de dessins et de pièces provenant de son service à Bicêtre. Cette première leçon est consacrée, après quelqes généralités, à l'historique de l'anatomie normale et pathologique du système nerveux. Dans l'introduction, Dejerine montre notamment les corrélations entre la localisation (pour une lésion donnée, quelle que soit la cause dont elle relève) et la symptomatologie. L'historique est certes concis, mais particulièrement clair et avec de nombreux auteurs cités.

Cet article de Dejerine occupe les pages 249-253. Dejerine expose les derniers travaux, dont ses propres travaux, sur le sujet, réalisés grâce à la mé…thode anatomo-clinique. Il rapporte différentes observations. A propos de l'une d'entre elles, il expose sa conception du sens dit stéréognostique (qui "est, en réalité, une association de plusieurs sensations simples"). Dejerine expose les critères permettant de ne pas confondre l'hémianesthésie d'origine cérébrale avec l'hémianesthésie hystérique. Il expose ensuite le trajet des fibres sensitives afin de faire comprendre quelles peuvent être les lésions cérébrales qui provoquent l'hémianesthésie (d'origine capsulaire ou corticale). Contrairement à von Monakow, Dejerine estime que l'intégration du lobule pariétal inférieur dans la zone sensitive n'est pas encore démontrée. E…dition originale très rare de cet ouvrage admirable de Dejerine, paru au sein du vaste Traité de pathologie générale publié par Charles Bouchard que nous proposons ici, complet de ses 6 tomes, très rarement rencontrés réunis, la publication s'étant étalé sur 8 années. /// The very rare treatise of Bouchard et al. containing the FIRST EDITION of DEJERINE'S MASTERPIECE ON NEUROLOGICAL SYMPTOMATOLOGY(1900) /// Bouchard fit appel à de nombreux collaborateurs. Cette Sémiologie du système nerveux, rédigé par Dejerine, occupe les pages 359-1168 du tome VI (publié en 1900), soit plus de 800 pages. Cet ouvrage paraîtra isolément, dans une édition corrigée et augmentée, tenant compte des nouvelles acquisitions (concernant par exemple les agnosies) et avec une introduction, en 1914 (cette édition de 1914 n'est donc pas l'édition originale comme cela est assez souvent indiquée, mais représente comme l'indique d'ailleurs Dejerine dans son introduction, la 2ème édition ; elle fera l'objet d'un 2ème tirage en 1926). Cet ouvrage monumental de sémiologie neurologique comporte une riche et belle iconographie (constituée de 306 figures intercalées dans le texte), avec de très nombreuses reproductions photographiques associées des schémas. Jules Joseph Dejerine (1849-1917), qui fut l'élève de Vulpian, dirigeait alors le "petit service" de la Salpêtrière (pavillon Jacquart) et était professeur suppléant de Bouchard. Il devint professeur de clinique des maladies du système nerveux (chaire de Charcot) en 1910. La première édition ne comportait ni avant-propos ni préface, puisqu'elle était intégrée au Traité de pathologie générale édité sous la direction de Bouchard, et n'en constituait que l'un des volumes. La parution de la Sémiologie, en 1900, a sans doute été l'un des faits marquants de cette période. Le travail réalisé était -et reste- impressionnant à plus d'un titre. Il concerne en effet tous les domaines de la pathologie nerveuse, n'en laissant aucun de côté, n'ignorant pas même les désordres fonctionnels. Certains chapitres sont tout à fait nouveaux dans leur conception, en quelque sorte intégrative : sémiologie de la main, du pied, du faciès, des attitudes. Il est d'une grande homogénéité méthodologique : tout est construit selon la méthode anatomo-clinique. L'importance de la documentation rassemblée pour cet ouvrage ne laisse pas d'impressionner. Cette documentation comporte une très riche iconographie : près de 300 photos illustrent l'ouvrage. Des photos d'une rare qualité, dont certaines sont restées classiques. Cette première édition couvre absolument tous les domaines de la neurologie et témoigne de la puissance de travail et de l'étendue de l'érudition de Dejerine.
