Hay otra emisión que contiene también las "Satiras" de Aulo Persio Flaco, con frontispicio propio para ambas. López, Diego. Valencia de Alcántara (Cáceres), s. m. s. XVI ?, c. 1650. Maestro de Latini…dad, poeta, traductor y gramático, "natural de Valencia, de la orden de Alcántara", como él mismo dice en las portadas de algunos de sus libros, nació en Valencia de Alcántara (Cáceres) en un año indeterminado de la segunda mitad del siglo XVI, y murió en lugar y fecha también inciertos a mediados del siglo XVII. Sus estudios los realizó en la Universidad de Salamanca como discípulo del Brocense y su carrera profesional se desarrolló fuera de las aulas universitarias, pues durante los años 1600 al 1631 estuvo como preceptor y maestro de Latinidad en distintas poblaciones menores. En 1600, fecha de su traducción de Virgilio, se hallaba como preceptor en Olmedo; en ese mismo año marchó a Cáceres para desempeñar ese mismo oficio; en 1610 se encontraba ya en Santo Domingo de la Calzada, ocupando el cargo de catedrático de Latinidad y Letras Humanas, según reza en la portada de su obra Commento en defensa del libro quarto del Arte de Gramática del Maestro Antonio de Nebrija; en 1615 ocupó ese mismo puesto en Toro, según dice él mismo en el prólogo de sus comentarios a los Emblemas de Alciato; hay constancia de que en 1631 estaba en Mérida, localidad en la que permaneció hasta 1642, según informan las portadas de sus dos últimas obras atestiguadas (la traducción y comentario de Valerio Máximo y la Declaración magistral de las Sátiras de Juvenal y Persio). Según Nicolás Antonio, Diego López regresó a Toro, donde se encontraba en 1652 dictando lecciones a los hijos de los ciudadanos principales. Fue Diego López uno de los humanistas más señeros de la España de la primera mitad del siglo XVII, que destacó, sobre todo, en sus trabajos de traducción y comentario de los clásicos. Especialmente importante es su traducción de las obras completas de Virgilio, pues es por esta versión por la que la inmensa mayoría de lectores del siglo XVII y aún del XVIII conocen al poeta de Mantua. Su obra, no obstante, casi siempre bajo la estela de las enseñanzas, publicaciones y doctrinas de su maestro Francisco Sánchez de las Brozas, es amplia. 8 hojas, 538 páginas, 3 hojas.
