In den WarenkorbLeather. Zustand: Fine. A finely bound set of volumes containing a facsimile of the Stuttgart Psalter and a study of the work from American scholar Ernest T. De Wald. Complete in two volumes. Volume one contains a colour frontispiece. Volume two contains over three hundred leaves of plates, being a facsimile of the manuscript held at the Wurttemberg State Library. Collated complete. A detailed and comprehensive study of the Stuttgart Psalter, a richly illuminated nineth-century psalter, considered one of the most significant of the Carolingian period. Bound by Eric Sweet, a keen collector of private press and fables. He studied at the Brighton College of Art, before moving to London to work as a lettering artist and typographer for advertising agencies, later becoming the head of Birmingham School of Printing. Sweet's bindings are unique and striking, reflecting the topics of the volumes in distinctive style. Volume one is bound in quarter crushed morocco with paper covered boards. With volume two bound in quarter crushed morocco and vellum covered boards. Externally, excellent. Each volume is issued with a cloth covered chemise with a cloth covered slip case for the set, all of which are also in excellent condition. Internally, firmly bound.
