He translated Mathew Lewis's 'The Monk', and the works of writers such as Shakespeare and Robert Burns.With an image of a statue of Burns pasted to the verso of the title page.Tipped in to a front blank is a letter, dated 1897, in which one Mr. M. M. MacLeod Fullarton gives the work to one Mr. Macpherson, at the request of his late brother, the late Ralph MacLeaod Fullarton.To the recto of the half title is a handwritten notice explaining that ownership of the volume passed from Rev. J. R. Maynard to Ralph MacLeod Fullarton, who prior to his death asked that his brother pass it on to Mr Macpherson. In a half calf binding, with marbled paper covered boards, and gilt detailing to back strip. A touch of rubbing to back strip tail, otherwise externally excellent. Front hinge lightly strained, but firmly held. Letter tipped in to a front blank. Internally, firmly bound. Inscription to recto of half title. Pages bright, and generally clean, with the odd spot.
