Chollet, Sauveterre, 1878, frontispice, 79 pp. Bon état (qq. rouss.) pour ce tirage imprimé sur beau vergé. Enfant prodige, le périgourdin de Lagrange-Chancel (1677-1758) écrivit de lui-même : "Je ne savais pas… lire que je savais rimer". Monté à Brdeaux puis à Paris, il sera protégé par Louis XIV qui le confia à Racine. Opposé au Régent, il publia contre ce dernier des "Philippiques" qui firent scandale. Emprisonné aux Iles de Lérins, il s'en évada et gagna l'Espagne puis la Hollande. Langue: Français.

In den WarenkorbManuscrit in-4 de 143 pp. chiffrées, maroquin rouge, dos orné à nerfs, large dentelle sur les plats, doublé de tabis bleu, tranches dorées (reliure de l?époque). Manuscrit sur papier des trois premières Philippiques, satires clandestines contre le Régent Philippe d'Orléans, mises en circulation dès 1720. Une note du commentaire,… « La Grange fut exilé en Périgord ; ensuitte, accusé d'avoir fait la Satyre, il fut confiné dans une prison aux isles Sainte-Marguerite », permet de dater l'exécution du manuscrit de 1721, nécessairement antérieure à l'évasion du poète (fin 1722 ou début 1723) et à la mort du Régent (2 décembre 1723), puisque les deux odes composées après cette date n'y figurent pas. Par son exécution luxueuse, grande écriture soignée, papier de choix, reliure ornée de demi-fleurs de lys, ce volume fut manifestement réalisé pour un personnage important, hostile au Régent.Le texte est copié au recto de chaque feuillet, les versos étant réservés aux annotations. Selon Firmin-Didot, dont le long commentaire (3 pp.) sert de base à la présente notice, la comparaison de ce manuscrit avec les éditions imprimées (Hollande, 1723 ; Didot jeune, 1795 ; Bordeaux, 1797 ; Lescure, 1858 ; édition dite « définitive », 1876, toutes jugées fautives ou insatisfaisantes) établit sa supériorité textuelle : les nombreuses variantes ne proviennent pas de remaniements de l'auteur, mais d'erreurs de copistes. Plusieurs vers jugés obscurs par les éditeurs y retrouvent un sens clair et cohérent, ainsi la strophe sur Pierre le Grand, ou celle évoquant « le changement de Villars ».L'annotateur anonyme, ennemi déclaré du Régent et critique du duc de Saint-Simon (qu'il juge « vain, et plus fier qu'il n'est petit »), livre par ailleurs une identification inédite : la « Prêtresse antique » de la troisième ode, traditionnellement identifiée à la princesse de Rohan-Montauban, serait en réalité Mme de Nancré, maîtresse du chancelier Terray et, selon l'annotateur, complice du commerce incestueux prêté au Régent avec sa fille.Provenance : Ambroise Firmin-Didot (1880), n°31 ; Édouard Moura (1923), n°467.Henri Duranton, La nébuleuse pamphlétaire.
