Donald Day (1899-1991) was a highly prolific American editor, biographer, and historian. He dedicated a significant portion of his career to preserving the legacy and written voice of Will Rogers. Donald Day (1899-1991) was born Horace Henry Day on May 11, 1899, in Texas. In 1918 he received his bachelor's degree from Southwest Texas and in 1924 his master's from the University of Texas at Austin. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 1940. He edited the Southwest Review at Southern Methodist University in Dallas (1943-45) and was a staff writer and editor for Readers Digest. Donald Day was a prolific writer. William Penn Adair Rogers (November 4, 1879 - August 15, 1935) was a Cherokee-American vaudeville performer, actor, and humorist. He was born as a citizen of the Cherokee Nation, in the Indian Territory, now part of Oklahoma, and is known as "Oklahoma's Favorite Son". As an entertainer and humorist, he traveled around the world three times, made 71 films (50 silent films and 21 "talkies"), and wrote more than 4,000 nationally syndicated newspaper columns. By the mid-1930s, Rogers was hugely popular in the United States for his leading political wit and was one of the higher paid Hollywood film stars. He died in 1935 with aviator Wiley Post when their small airplane crashed on takeoff from a lagoon near Utqia vik (formerly Barrow), Alaska, in northern Alaska.
