Red cloth cover, clean with gilt-lettered sp. w. only slightest end-rubbing. Generally a very sound copy of this interesting work on how sex is determined including a chapter on hermaphroditism and others as indicated in lengthy sub-title. His theory that sex is determined by which ovary the fertilized ovum originates from - hence facilitating control over the child's gender since ova released alternately from the two ovaries - is of course totally erroneous. The author was a very eminent late Victorian obstetrician.
