Tan cloth over boards with blue letters and decorations on the spine. Top edge stained yellow, fore-edge untrimmed. Just touches of wear to extremities, cloth clean and bright, all illustrations in fine condition, else near fine to fine with no internal markings. Dust jacket spine ever so slightly faded, the whole slightly shelfworn, price-clipped, else very good to near fine. Additional dust jacket title: Adventure and Frontier Life in the Gold Fields of California. Born in Keokuk, Iowa in 1891, Grace Strickler was an American poet and author. She began as a writer contributing poetry to many national magazines, subsequently renouncing the magazine field in order to publish books, beginning with historical novels set in California. Her juvenile novels contain authentic historical background and several others were also illustrated by Loren Barton. Dawson also published a juvenile history entitled CALIFORNIA: THE STORY OF OUR SOUTHWEST CORNER (1939). Loren Roberta Barton [1893-1975] was an American painter, water colorist and illustrator.
