Hardcover. Zustand: g- to g. First edition. Duodecimo. 72pp. Tan leather over original illustrated tan and black paper boards, with black lettering on the covers. This obscure storywritten for a young adult audience, relates the tail of two travelers in the Netherlands in 1815, right after the end of the Napoleonic wars. The author remains anonymous, although it perhaps can be credited to the publisher Edward Lacey. The publisher, his address and some historical references in the text point to the fact the the book was likely published circa 1835, although no date is given. The text is illustrated with 3 plates credited to a G. Davies, who also is responsible for the illustrated covers and is likely the illustrator of the vignette on the title page as well. There is an addition steel-plate engraved frontispiece with no credit, titled "The Gardener's Daughter". Binding with rubbing to extremities, and some light to moderate staining to the covers. Interior with illegible period owner's name in ink on the front free endpaper. Minor to light sporadic water stains to the text. Starting and loosening of the book block at pages 26 and 36. Binding and interior in good- to good condition overall. Quite scarce.
