These are the personal recollections of one David Smith, who moved ca. 1837 with his family from Campbelltown, Argyll County in Western Scotland to Ottawa, Lee County, Illinois via New York City, Buffalo, and Chicago. They settled on their farm, which came to be known as Smith's Grove in August, 1837. According to the Introduction, which is dated Paw Paw, Ill., February 4, 1915, these recollections were originally published in the Dixon County Weekly Citizen.
