In den WarenkorbZustand: Fine. New York, November 13, 1899., 1899. Fine. - Over 40 words typed on his 6-7/8 inch high by 4-1/2 inch wide watermarked "St. Bartholomew's Rectory" stationery. Then rector of New York City's St. Bartholomew's Church David H. Greer writes to the American impressario and lecture manager James B. Pond "I beg to thank y…ou very much for sending me complimentary tickets to Dean Stubb's lecture this week, and to express the hope that his visit to this country may prove in every way successful." Signed "David H. Greer". Pond has stamped "Book" in purple at top left. Folded for mailing, else fine. The American Protestant Episcopal Bishop David H. Greer (1844-1919) served as rector at churches in Kentucky and Rhode Island before serving as rector of St. Bartholomew's Church in New York City from 1888 to 1904. He was elected Bishop Coadjutor for the New York Diocese and subsequently succeeded Bishop Potter as Bishop in 1908. He believed in direct unceremonious relationships between the clergy and laymen. He offered a service for the General Convention at St. John the Divine, collecting an offering of $500,000 which took 3 clergymen to carry to the altar. Greer initially opposed U.S. involvement in World War I but endorsed the war effort once the U.S. had entered the conflict as a "great crusade against tyranny and aggression".
