Beige titled Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer wrappers, dated April 3, 28, stamped copy No. 1765, noted as production No. 372, with credit for screenwriter Frances Marion. Title page integral with the first page of text, dated April 3, 1928, with credit for Marion. 100 leaves, with last page of text numbered 100. Mimeograph duplication, rectos only. Jerry Wald is best remembered for his long and successful associa…tion with Warner Brothers as both a screenwriter and producer of a number of notable films, including "Mildred Pierce" (1945), "Humoresque" (1946), "Key Largo" (1948), and "Flamingo Road" (1949). In the 1950s he moved to Twentieth Century-Fox, and was the producer there for "An Affair to Remember" (1957), "Peyton Place" (1957), and "Sons and Lovers" (1960). Based on Roger Butterfield's 1944 book detailing the heroic actions of US Marine Al Schmid during World War II, and his rehabilitation after being blinded in battle. Nominated for an Academy Award for Best Screenplay. Shot on location in Philadelphia and San Diego. Bound in beige cloth with tan quarter leather binding, with five raised bands and gilt titles on the spine. Title page present, undated, with credits for Wald, director Delmer Daves, screenwriter Albert Maltz, and biographer Roger Butterfield. 190 leaves, with last page of text numbered 159. Mimeograph duplication, rectos only, with blue revision pages throughout, dated variously between 12/8/44 and 2/21/45. Pages Near Fine, binding Very Good plus, with moderate wear on the leather and front board lightly soiled.
