The North eastern part of India comprising eight states is characterised by its ethnic linguistic literary and cultural diversity. The poets of the region who write in English mostly hail from multifarious ethnic groups. Their poetry is rich in dilating the aspects of the ecology myths rituals mysteries mysterious faiths and demographic traits. The region as an anthropological museum with its citizens and denizens having a deep sense of socio cultural alienation from the mainstream of Indian culture has developed a stern desire of belongingness to the best of it. As such it is interesting to see what the bards of the Northeast have produced in their poetry. Though meager in quantity the poetry of this region voices the major values of contemporary living conditions. The poetry of the famous poets of the region has been discussed in brief.
